Located about 20 minutes southwest of Pigeon Forge, Townsend offers a well-rounded view of the Great Smoky Mountains. Townsend is quiet mountain town, away from the congestion of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. This area is home to the Tremont area of the National Park, including two hiking trails and direct access to the Little Pigeon River. The river runs through the town, which makes fishing one of the main attractions in this area. A part of the river, better known as the “Y”, is a great location for families to spend the afternoon tubing and cooling off during warm weather. Other activities include horseback riding, golfing, and the 8-mile biking trail through town. Townsend has successfully maintained the mountain town charm, and continues to be a destination for all sorts of local artisans. Townsend will show you the simple pleasures in life and get you away from all the bright lights and amusement parks for the day.
