Is It Snowing in the Smokies?: Links to Live Webcams in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park

January 6, 2008

The temperature in the Great Smoky Mountains can range from the high 20s to 65 degrees in winter months. Snow is not very common at lower elevations. Snowfall of 1” or more happens only a few times each winter. However, higher elevations, such as Newfound Gap (elevation 5,046 ft.) receive much more snow. Newfound Gap averages 69” of snow each winter. You can view any snow that has fallen by viewing the park’s two webcams: Look Rock (mid elevation) and Purchase Knob (high elevation).
